Man is more than his body. He is a spiritual being in an earthly body. This spiritual being consists of spirit and soul. The spirit guides the body through the soul.
In colloquial language, "spirit" and "soul" are often used synonymously. This is due in particular to the teachings of the Catholic Church.
In the Spanish writings on which this translation is based, the term "espiritu" is used for both concepts, except in passages where both terms are mentioned together and their relationship to one another is clarified.
In these cases, to make the necessary distinction, "spirit" is rendered with the Spanish word for "conscience" and "consciousness," namely "conciencia."
Since a uniform translation using only one term for "espiritu" in the German translation would have led to ambiguities, the translators have endeavored to the best of their knowledge and belief to translate "espiritu" as "Spirit" or "Soul" or "Spirit-Soul" in accordance with the above explanations.
In case of doubt, the reader is asked to understand the texts of the revelations in accordance with their intended meaning.

This book contains a summary selection of passages from the 12 volumes of divine revelations published in Mexico between 1956 and 1962 under the title "Libro de la Vida Verdadera." In these revelations or teachings, God revealed Himself as Creator, Judge, and Father, and Christ as His "Word" and as the Divine Master of Wisdom from God, in the unity of the Holy Spirit with Him.
It was no easy task to find and select from the vast abundance of instructional texts those that were most suitable in terms of content and language for an excerpt edition organized by topic, and that were indispensable for the respective topics in order to present them as comprehensively as possible. It also became necessary, at times, to include several verses related in meaning in the German compendium for the sake of a specific statement in a verse of the original edition. In other passages, it was necessary to include only a portion of a larger original verse containing different thematic content.
In translating the original Spanish text of the Kund into German, the precise rendering of the meaning was the paramount principle, as this represents the essence of the divine word. Wherever possible, the Spanish wording was also rendered as literally as possible, so that occasionally somewhat peculiar and unfamiliar words, terms, and expressions appear in these texts. In some cases, a footnote was therefore necessary for further clarification. However, great importance was also placed on using a pleasant and understandable German style, and thus a literal translation was often avoided if it would have been linguistically awkward and the meaning of the relevant passage could be expressed in good German without any loss of meaning.
Although the mouthpieces, in a state of ecstasy, were not consciously involved in the formulation of the revelations and merely made their more or less developed linguistic and conceptual abilities available as a tool for the divine revelation, and although the eloquence of the revelations far exceeded their normal capacity for expression, the linguistic clarity and expressive power of the revelations nevertheless depended on the spiritual and mental preparation and the vocabulary of the respective messenger.
A particular challenge was posed by the semantically accurate translation of the terms "spirit" and "soul," since in the Spanish editions the terms "alma" or "anima" for "soul" are entirely absent, and instead the word for "spirit," "espiritu," is used. In some cases, therefore, the decision as to whether "espíritu" should be translated in its original sense as "spirit" or as "soul" was quite difficult and had to be made to the best of our knowledge and belief. The reason for this occasional confusion in word usage was not due to the divine revelations themselves, but rather to the linguistic habits of those who transmitted the words and a misjudgment during the subsequent compilation and initial publication of the "BOOK OF TRUE LIFE" in Mexico.
This compendium, organized by topic, is intended to help the interested reader and all who seek knowledge and truth to gain a comprehensive overview of what the Spirit of God revealed in the course of numerous messages in Mexico before the end of 1950, i.e., during the period from 1884 to 1950, revealed as a new message and instruction for humanity. Above all, however, its purpose is to facilitate and promote the thorough study and deepening of the Spirit's teaching, the new Word of God.
Thanks to the clear thematic structure, the table of contents allows for quick access to the topics and passages that are currently of interest to the reader or that he needs for engaging with those who hold different views or for discussion with fellow believers.
The commission and authorization to compile this compendium in this form and with this title were given by Christ Himself in His new Word. Each chapter of the book deals with a single topic (except for chapters 61 through 63) and is understandable to those particularly interested in it even without knowledge of the preceding chapters. Nevertheless, a systematic study of the work from the first to the last chapter is recommended and necessary for a complete understanding of the spiritual teaching.
Chapters 9–11, 16–18, 20–22, 32–36, 43–45, 59–61, 63, and 65 are particularly suitable for daily edification and guidance, with special reference also made to the complete teachings in the German translation editions of the "BOOK OF TRUE LIFE" "Libro de la Vida Verdadera," which are available through bookstores at . From these, the interested reader or believer can gain an impression of how the divine revelations came about as a whole, and can experience deep joy and enlightenment for mind and heart while reading them, just as from this Third Testament. May this be granted to all people of good will.

Introduction
Most Christians, regardless of their denomination or religious group, will perceive the title of this book, "The Third Testament," as presumptuous, since this work of new revelation is thereby placed on a par with the Old and New Testaments of the Bible, which they regard as Holy Scripture and the foundation of their faith—complete and in need of no continuation or expansion.
However, those truly knowledgeable about the Bible will be aware that this traditional view has no basis in the authoritative teachings of Jesus as handed down to us in the Gospels of the New Testament. Quite the contrary! In his farewell discourses, Jesus spoke repeatedly of his return and, in connection with this, of the "Spirit of Truth," the "Comforter," the "Holy Spirit," who would then "guide us into all truth."
The Apostle Paul expressed his conviction of a great coming revelation of God at the end of time with the words: "For now I know in part, but then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known." (1 Cor. 13:12)
This introduction aims to provide the believing Christian, and indeed all interested readers of this book, with a truthful understanding of its origin, and of the manner and external circumstances in which Jesus' promise of His return was fulfilled; for despite the statements contained within the revelations themselves, some questions might remain unanswered and could give rise to doubts and misconceptions. This introduction is also intended to facilitate an understanding of what the Spirit of God left behind for humanity in His new revelation as His Third Testament.
As every reader of this new Word of God can see for themselves, it radiates the highest authority, wisdom, and love. It is the fulfillment of Jesus' promise of His return "in the cloud" (Luke 21:27), which—expressed symbolically in the language of the Spirit—means: in a spiritual manner. Thus, this Third Testament of God, as a thematically structured summary of the divine revelations in Mexico, is a truthful testimony to the return of Christ "in the Spirit"; it is His timely message and teaching for humanity in concentrated form.
This Word is intended to serve as a spiritual guide for people today, leading them to a better and deeper understanding of God, of themselves, of the meaning of their existence on earth, and of the events that befall them in their personal lives, as well as of the events and changes that necessarily accompany the dawn of the "Age of the Holy Spirit." The medieval abbot Joachim of Fiore and many others after him already spoke of this time. It is the coming Kingdom of Peace of Christ on earth, promised to humanity since the time of the prophets.
With the spiritual return of Christ in the Word, this age of the Spirit and the spiritualization of humanity has already dawned, and Christ has shown the way there with his new word of love.
Contrary to all expectations of Christendom, the central event in the Second Coming of Christ is not something in the future, but is already history: It took place in the period from 1866 to 1950 in complete silence, unnoticed and unheeded by the "wider world" and by Christendom! Not in the center of Western Christianity, in Rome, or in the center of Orthodox piety on Mount Athos, or, as many expected, in the ancient Judeo-Christian Jerusalem, or in the realm of Protestant theology and philosophy of religion, but in a country of the so-called Third World, in Mexico! And even there, not within the dominant Catholic Church in all its power and splendor, but in a milieu of poverty and insignificance among the simple, uneducated people in the suburbs or outskirts of Mexico City, and from there radiating out across the country and spreading. Who would have expected that?
The Second Coming of Christ became a reality in the form of spiritual revelations from Christ received by people chosen by Him while in a state of ecstasy within newly founded, charismatic, Christian-spiritualist congregations or brotherhoods.
A large portion of these revelations was stenographically recorded in the years leading up to 1950, transcribed, and later published in 12 volumes under the title "Libro de la Vida Verdadera," which translates to "BOOK OF TRUE LIFE." In these final years, all previous teachings were repeated in an expanded and more in-depth form. The present book contains a careful selection of texts from this work covering all the topics found therein.
This collection of Christ's teachings, as well as thematically organized excerpts from it, was intended by the Lord from the very beginning as His Third Testament for humanity, especially for Christendom. The truth of this weighty statement is to be made clear to the reader through this introduction.
According to the Lord's Word, the reason Mexico was chosen as the land designated for the Second Coming of Christ is that the indigenous ancestors of today's inhabitants were martyred in His name and forcibly "Christianized" by the Spanish conquerors. On the other hand, through centuries of oppression and bondage, these peoples and their present-day descendants have developed more of a brotherly spirit, humanity, humility of heart, and tolerance than other peoples of the earth, especially the European ones. For this reason, many more mature souls from the ancient chosen "People of Israel" were born in the present day among the Mexican people and witnessed the fulfillment of the promises given to "Spiritual Israel."
Likewise, the birth of Jesus—Christ's first coming into the world—did not take place in the centers of power and civilization of Rome or Greece, nor even in the Jewish cultural center of Jerusalem, but rather in a remote, humble setting; and Jesus's homeland and primary sphere of activity was Galilee, which was despised by the Jews of Jerusalem. Regarding this, the scribes of old, in a spirit of superiority, remarked: "What good can come from Nazareth?" The theologians of today should not commit the same error and mistake, and out of a sense of intellectual superiority secretly think: What good and great things can come from Mexico?
What evidence suggests that the spiritual manifestations there are truly of divine origin? Above all, the messages themselves, which are unmistakably imbued with the Spirit and the mind of Christ and the love and mercy of the Heavenly Father. What human heart could remain unmoved by this? The wisdom and profundity of the thoughts, revelations, admonitions, and teachings also bear eloquent witness to their Author. What deceiving spirit could possibly feign all this with sinister intentions? What could those intentions be, since these teachings can only serve the betterment, development, and ennoblement of the human race?
Another reason that speaks in favor of the authenticity of these revelations as the new Word of God is the fact that they have been conveyed over such a long period of time and through so many different messengers and places of revelation, yet they possess a unified character and spirit and clearly point to a single source of revelation. What dark power could possibly be capable of staging such a deceptive charade across an entire country for decades—mocking God? That is simply impossible and would never be permitted by God as the loving Father of His human children and the supreme Guide of earthly destinies.
Further compelling reasons for the authenticity of these revelations as a testimony to the spiritual return of Christ in the Word are the correspondences between Jesus' promises regarding His return and its "signs" and the events in Mexico during a period of earth-shaking and transformative occurrences marked by two world wars. In this regard, reference is made to the introduction in Volume I of the "BOOK OF TRUE LIFE" titled "The Return of Christ as Reflected in Biblical Promises," as well as to the study by Ernesto Enkerlin titled "God's Work of the Spirit," both published by Reichl Verlag.
A significant testimony regarding the world region—and thus also regarding Mexico as the site of Christ's spiritual return—was given to Christianity in the 19th century by the so-called "Scribe of God," Jakob Lorber. At one point in his great work of new revelation, Jesus speaks of his spiritual return taking place in a land beyond the great ocean, that is, the Atlantic (Gr. Ev. Joh. 94, 14-15). Should this not be cause for those who believe in the revelations through Lorber and all spiritually alert Christians to ask themselves whether this prophecy has not already been fulfilled, and to investigate whether something has occurred in one of the countries of the American continent that makes this claim and also lives up to it? The criterion for judgment, however, should not be merely the magnitude of the revealed knowledge of creation, but above all the divine love and wisdom expressed therein.
Such an event did indeed take place and began in the early 1860s in Mexico. A simple man of the people named Roque Rojas had, on June 23, 1861, a first experience of his calling through the Archangel Gabriel and a vision in which his mission as the Lord's earthly forerunner was announced to him.* After being convinced of the authenticity of his divine calling through another great vision, he began to tell others about the messages and visions he received while in a state of ecstasy, and through his persuasiveness and credibility, he gradually gathered a community of believers around him. Through the gift of spiritual healing that subsequently came to him, he became widely known and highly esteemed by all who sought help and counsel. He established a first place of assembly, where on September 1, 1866, Elias spoke through him for the first time, and seven men and women were ordained as leaders of newly founded congregations, symbolizing the Seven Seals of the corresponding epochs of salvation history.

When the participants at a gathering during Holy Week in 1869 failed to show the reverence and devotion that Roque Rojas expected of them, he was seized by holy wrath and destroyed the divine revelations he had received through Elias up to that point. He declared the meeting place closed, thereby bringing his blessed work to a premature end. Yet the good seed he had sown sprouted and blossomed in other places, and in one of the Seven Seals congregations, years later, in 1884, Christ himself spoke for the first time through a medium who had remained faithful to the mission. From then on, the divine revelations continued uninterrupted, across generations, until the end of 1950.
The number of congregations and believers grew steadily during this time, so that this Christian-spiritualist movement, which Christ described as his spiritual work, ultimately comprised several hundred congregations with thousands of followers throughout the country.
The believers gathered regularly on Sunday mornings in their unadorned congregational halls or in private homes, and wherever one or more messengers were available, the Spirit of God manifested simultaneously, according to the needs and receptivity of the listeners.
Once a week, healing services were held, during which God's spirit world manifested itself spiritually through teaching, counsel, and healing. There were many spiritual healings of body and soul, but unfortunately these were not recorded in writing and preserved for posterity. They were apparently regarded as nothing extraordinary or worthy of being passed down.
With the end of the divine revelations and those from God's spirit world—which the Lord had announced and set long before—at the end of 1950, a profound rupture occurred within the Spirit Work: a schism between the congregations that adhered to this command of Christ and refrained from further spiritual revelations, and those congregations and congregation leaders who did not adhere to it and now allowed their mediums to fall into a trance state, thereby opening the floodgates to the lower spirit world and the deceiving spirits for false Christ and spirit revelations.
Unfortunately, these disobedient congregations held far greater appeal for the common people than those that remained faithful, whose members largely dispersed into small groups or defected to the other camp, because there was more "on offer" to satisfy the human craving for entertainment and sensation than in the quiet devotions involving the reading of a passage of instruction followed by an exchange of thoughts on it.
Despite these unfavorable circumstances, after 1950 a group of men and women, mostly former voice-bearers, began collecting the revelations scattered throughout the country in order to publish them in book form and make them known to humanity. In doing so, they had to rely primarily on copies of typewritten manuscripts, which had been produced by the scribes themselves based on the stenographic transcripts of the messages from that time and then distributed as copies upon request. A large number of different message manuscripts were compiled, of which 366 were ultimately selected for inclusion in the anthologies of the "Libro de la Vida Verdadera," in English: "BOOK OF TRUE LIFE."
Although these thus represent only a portion of all the messages, primarily from the final years prior to 1950—as evidenced by a large bundle of apparently unpublished message manuscripts from the estate of a former medium that has only recently "surfaced"—given this large number of messages, it can be assumed that, viewed as a whole, contain all the themes and teachings that the Spirit of God wished to convey to humanity and about which He wanted to enlighten them, so that they might find the way to a brighter future.
In 1962, the first German anthology of this complete work was published in Germany under the title: "The Third Age," which introduced the Lord's revelatory word for the first time to a limited circle of people in the German-speaking world. Since 1979, Reichl Verlag has also been publishing the German volumes of the "BOOK OF TRUE LIFE" at , from where they are available through bookstores.
In the 1970s, the "Society for Spiritual Studies" was founded in Mexico City, which took on the task of managing and preserving the revelation manuscripts and publishing new editions of the anthologies as well as accompanying literature. To this day, the Society still sees this as its primary mission, rather than the central leadership of a religious movement that is founded on the individual's personal responsibility in the light of conscience.
Wherever we open this work, we read and spiritually experience the convincing, wise, and loving words and revelations of Christ through His prepared human instruments—people who, in some cases, had barely any formal education and often were not even fully in control of the language that came from their lips, let alone the content, the wisdom, and the divine authority manifested therein.
This new Word of God contains, on the one hand, confirmations and explanations of events and revelations in the ancient people of Israel and during the earthly life and ministry of Jesus; on the other hand, it brings a wealth of new spiritual insights, some of which represent radical corrections to the traditional Christian worldview. This concerns the image of God, the divine nature of Jesus and Mary, the essence of the human being with an inherent spark of God and an eternal development of the soul, the concepts of heaven and hell, the Last Day or the Last Judgment, the doctrine of salvation and the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection from the dead, and eternal life. Even with regard to the practice of the Christian faith and forms of worship, new standards and goals are being set in some cases, and familiar traditions are being questioned or rejected—a trend that primarily affects liturgical practices and sacred architecture.
The central message corresponds to that brought by Jesus: instead of outward religious practice and ostentatious piety—an inner life of prayer and individual action in accordance with one's own conscience; instead of calculated charity motivated by selfishness—spontaneous, selfless action out of love for God, humanity, and nature, God's creation, whereby "love" can take many forms: attention, consideration, respect, compassion, affection, comfort, help, and support; instead of a comfortable, blind faith—a living, discerning faith based on insight and spiritual knowledge.
In His revelations, the Lord first addressed His Word to the believers present, whom He often referred to as "(My) people," "disciples," or "workers," and occasionally as "(beloved) Israel." In a broader sense, however, His word is directed—with few exceptions—to the whole Spiritual Israel, the whole people of God throughout the world, and to people of all nations, races, and religions. But will they joyfully welcome and acknowledge this new word of God?
This is not intended to be, nor should it be, a cause for the founding of a new religious community, church, or sect. It is God's call for the renewal and spiritualization of humanity and all its social and religious institutions. Whoever rejects His Third Testament for humanity rejects Him Himself and His Holy Spirit, who is revealed therein. May everyone carefully consider and take to heart this warning from God's new message of love itself, as well as the warnings contained in Jesus' parables of the "wise and foolish virgins" (Matt. 25:1–13) and the "royal wedding" (Matt. 22:2–14). For this word is the holy oil for the fading lamps of the Spirit; it is the bread and wine from the Lord's table, the eternal nourishment and refreshment of the soul.
